According to BBC reports, the X account of UK House of Commons leader Lucy Powell has been hacked and used to promote the fraudulent "House of Commons" cryptocurrency. On Powell's X account, a series of now deleted posts describe the "HCC" token as "a community driven digital currency that brings people's power to the blockchain. The office of the legislator confirmed that her account was hacked on Tuesday morning and stated that "prompt measures have been taken to protect the account and remove misleading posts". Recently, some public figures with a large fan base, including BBC journalist Nick Robinson, have also been subjected to similar cyber attacks.
Luke Nolan, Senior Researcher at CoinShares, stated that the recent hacking of Powell's account is an example of 'boosting shipments', as the token only had 34 transactions, which could have resulted in a profit of approximately £ 225.
