[Ledger Researchers Discover Android Chip Vulnerability That May Threaten Web3 Wallet Security] Ledger's Donjon research team demonstrated that electromagnetic fault injection (EMFI) can completely compromise MediaTek smartphone chips, which are used in various Android phones. The research shows that attackers need physical access to the device, with the risk primarily affecting users who store private keys on their smartphones. The research team bypassed the core security checks of the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 (MT6878) chip using EMFI tools, gaining full control of the chip and executing arbitrary code. Ledger emphasized that this vulnerability does not affect Ledger hardware wallets. MediaTek responded by stating that EMFI attacks are beyond the security scope of the MT6878 chip, which is designed for consumer products rather than financial or hardware security module applications, and recommended that devices such as encrypted hardware wallets adopt higher security protection measures.
