Former Labour Secretary General Iain McNicol was found to have violated regulations by providing paid parliamentary services on behalf of Astra Protocol in June 2023. After months of investigation by The Guardian into the review of aristocratic commercial interests by the House of Lords, his actions were reported to the Standards Commissioner. During his tenure as a paid consultant for Astra Protocol, he received a monthly commission from Astra Protocol, and a token issued by Astra Protocol subsequently plummeted in value by over 99%. Iain McNicol expressed full acceptance of the investigation results in a letter to the Chairman of the House of Lords Conduct Committee, Lord Carkar, and stated, "I am willing to offer my complete and unreserved apologies for violating the guidelines
