[Vitalik Says modexp Precompiled Contract Inefficiency Hinders Ethereum Development] Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin posted on the X platform, stating that the inefficiency and complexity of the modexp precompiled contract have negatively impacted the Ethereum ecosystem. He pointed out that modexp's poor performance not only drags down Ethereum but also increases the risk of consensus failures due to its complexity. While performance can be improved by optimizing the original execution layer or the verification layer, considering that this feature is used by only 0.01% of users, he believes such optimization is unwise. Vitalik emphasized that Ethereum currently faces more urgent scaling needs and improvement tasks in other parts of the protocol, and optimizing modexp should not be a priority.
