Little Tech Association and other organizations have sent letters to the Trump administration opposing the ban on China's open weighting model

The Little Tech Association, in collaboration with Y Combinator and 179 other signatories, has sent a letter to the Trump administration opposing a comprehensive ban on China's open weighting models Kimi K3 and Qwen3.8 Max. The co signatories claim that American startups have already used the Chinese open model for their business, and a complete ban would increase costs for American companies. Particle founder Suhail Doshi stated that a ban would put companies that rely on open models in crisis, while closed source model vendors such as Anthropic would benefit. At present, the Trump administration has not proposed a formal ban.
