The Thai Securities and Exchange Commission has filed a criminal complaint against digital asset exchange Bitkub Online and two former directors, Sakolkorn Sakavee and Thaweesap Rawan, accusing them of false reporting related to the 2021 cyber attack. In May 2021, a cyber attack resulted in the theft of 16 Bitkub digital assets worth approximately 1.7 billion Thai baht, or around 50 million US dollars. The regulatory agency stated that Bitkub's daily net working capital report submitted from May 10 to October 30, 2021 did not accurately reflect the decrease in assets. Bitkub stated on the X platform that the case originated from a disclosure decision after the May 2021 cyber attack and was not a fraudulent act. The exchange stated that the delay in disclosing the damage to the wallet was to avoid a run on the bank. The co founders subsequently purchased equivalent digital assets to cover the stolen funds, and neither the company nor its customers incurred financial losses.
