According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Radio and Television, the National Security Committee of the Iranian Parliament is jointly reviewing a draft law on the Strait of Hormuz with the Judicial, Economic, and Civil Affairs Subcommittee. The draft proposes to assert Iran's sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz and suggests charging fees to passing ships. Iran's Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ali Nikzad, stated in May that the draft would prohibit Israeli ships from passing through and deny passage to ships from "hostile countries" unless these countries compensate for war related losses.
