According to Digital Asset, on August 20th, 10 members of the South Korean National Power Party, including lawmaker Yeon Tae yong, proposed amendments to the Specific Financial Information Act, which would grant the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) direct enforcement power over undeclared virtual asset service providers. According to the amendment, anyone can report illegal activities to FIU. When FIU receives a report or discovers suspected violations, it can conduct investigation and analysis, and transfer or report the case to the investigating authorities. The proposal points out that the current laws lack direct enforcement measures against undeclared operators, and there are hidden risks of money laundering, illegal cross-border transfers, and other crimes.
