39 state banking associations in the United States have established the BankChain Alliance, which plans to build a blockchain network jointly owned and governed by banks for community and regional banks, with the goal of going online by 2027. The network is planned to support tokenized deposits, stablecoins, programmable payments, and automatic settlements, aiming to help small and medium-sized banks access blockchain financial infrastructure while complying with existing regulatory standards. BankChain has not yet announced its technology provider, underlying blockchain, network architecture, governance model, and regulatory framework, nor has it clarified whether it is based on existing public chains such as XRP, Ethereum, or Solana. The network is expected to cover thousands of US financial institutions.
