Musk: Global AI power gap will reach 15 gigawatts by 2027

Musk stated in his G20 speech that global AI development is facing a power bottleneck, and it is expected that there will be at least 15 gigawatts of electricity shortage related to AI chips by 2027. Musk stated that the annual production capacity growth rate of AI chips is about 40% -50%, while the annual growth rate of electricity supply outside of China is only about 10% -20%. Google and Anthropic are renting computing power from SpaceX because SpaceX has built its own power plant to rapidly expand its capacity. Musk believes that China has sufficient electricity but is constrained by GPU export controls, and other countries can obtain new growth points through taxes and fees by building large-scale electricity and undertaking AI data centers.
