[LLM Token Spending Index Drops to $0.97, Down Over 50% from May Peak]
According to Yonhap News Agency, the LLM Token Spending Index released by U.S. market intelligence firm Silicon Data fell to $0.97 per million tokens on August 31, marking the lowest value since the index was established late last year, and down over 50% from its May peak of $2.05. Factors contributing to the price decline include the launch of the open-source model Kimi K3 by Dark Side of the Moon, OpenAI's price reduction for the ChatGPT-5.6 series models, and the implementation of dynamic pricing mechanisms by leading companies. The drop in token prices has created revenue pressure for model developers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. Seez Group's Head of Investments suggested that foundational model companies should focus on strengthening distribution channels, memory, and context capabilities to counter the competitive erosion from open-source models.
