Solana has reduced the target slot time from 300 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds, resulting in a nearly 17% increase in block generation speed. The amount of computation and data that each slot can carry is correspondingly reduced, while the overall transaction processing capacity remains unchanged. This adjustment shortens the epoch duration to approximately 30 hours and reduces the available time for offline signatures and delayed approvals. The proposal to shorten slot time to 200 milliseconds has not yet been determined for the main network line time.
