Telegram provides specific user privacy data to US authorities

--

According to federal court documents, Telegram provided specific users' phone numbers, user IDs, account display names, IP addresses, and timestamps to US authorities upon receiving a legal request. Telegram claims that providing data is voluntary and does not provide chat content or contact information. Starting from September 2024, Telegram will adjust its policy to disclose IP addresses and phone numbers when judicial authorities confirm that users are suspected of committing crimes. Throughout 2024, Telegram responded to 900 US law enforcement requests involving 2253 users. (Source: Court Watch, 404 Media)
