Coinkite faces class action lawsuit in Canada over alleged random number defects in firmware
Coldcard hardware wallet manufacturer Coinkite and its co founders Rodolfo Novak and Peter D. Gray are facing a class action lawsuit in Ontario, Canada. The lawsuit alleges that the standard firmware used by Coldcard hardware wallet since March 2021 has defects, as it does not use a true random number generator but relies on a predictable software pseudo-random number generator, which may result in mnemonic words being reproduced and users facing unauthorized access risks to their Bitcoin holdings. The lawsuit requests collective authentication and claims that Coinkite violated the Consumer Protection Law and the Sales of Goods Law, as well as allegations of negligence and breach of contract, and demands compensation.
