However, total losses decreased by 69% year-over-year to $496 million, compared to $1.6 billion in the same period last year. Shard noted that the losses in the same period of 2025 were primarily due to a major theft incident involving approximately $1.4 billion at Bybit. In 2026, attacks were more dispersed, targeting DeFi protocols, infrastructure services, and individual users. In January, 29 attacks occurred, resulting in losses exceeding $392 million; in February, 26 attacks caused losses of over $22 million; and in March, 27 attacks led to losses of over $81 million.
