The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission has issued a proposed rule to include contracts based on sports, political, cultural, and weather events in the definition of swaps. Chairman Michael Selig stated that these products belong to commodity derivatives under the Commodity Exchange Act and are under the exclusive jurisdiction of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission. The proposal is open for public opinion for 30 days. The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission issued a temporary final rule on the same day, clarifying that casino gambling products such as sports betting and casino games are not considered swaps.
