Apple and Micron have disagreements over Chinese storage chip supply, and the Trump administration faces policy conflicts

According to WSJ, Apple and Micron are lobbying on whether products from Chinese memory chip manufacturers ChangXin Memory Technologies and Yangtze Memory Technologies Corporation can enter Apple's supply chain. Apple CEO Tim Cook and executives have proposed a plan to US President Trump, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to use Chinese made chips in Apple products sold in non US markets to reduce costs. Micron opposes the plan, stating that Chinese companies supplying chips will weaken the domestic storage chip industry in the United States, and advocates solving the supply problem by accelerating the construction of domestic factories in the United States. Micron plans to invest $250 billion in the United States to expand its storage chip production capacity. The demand for AI data centers has driven storage chip prices several times higher in the past year, and Apple has accused Micron of having high profit margins and insufficient expansion speed.
